From the Top
New clubhouse furniture has finally arrived! We are constantly remodeling and upgrading your club to make sure that you and your guests say “Wow!” every time you visit this facility. From the new leather furniture in main sitting area to new pub tables and bar stools all the way from South Africa, we are doing our best to make The Highlands more comfortable for you.
USE YOUR CLUB!
We all have busy and stressful lives and The Highlands is the perfect venue to help you keep your “yin and yang” in balance. Therapy is watching your dog perform perfectly in the field and your son or daughter make that 60-yard crossing shot, and these are memories that will be etched in your mind forever. The Highlands is truly your club. It was built for your enjoyment and is here for you anytime you need to escape from the real world, recharge your batteries, and be reminded of what really matters. Pick up the phone, book your hunt, and use your club to the fullest.
On behalf of the entire staff, we hope to see you soon.

10 REASONS TO USE YOUR CLUB
The hunt season is only 6 ½ months long, and half of it is already over.
- Your dog was put on this planet to hunt; don’t deny him his given right.
- The bonds and relationships formed while hunting can’t be matched in any other venue.
- The exercise you get while hunting is good for your cardiovascular system.
- Hunting gets your kids away from video games.
- Most cell phones don’t work in the fields.
- Pheasant, “It’s what’s for dinner!”
- Work will still be there after you hunt.
- Pheasant brats and breakfast sausages are in stock.
- Your dog needs a bath.
Hunting Etiquette
Three things you’ll constantly be reminded of at The Highlands:
- Don’t trample the cover.
- Pick up all spent shells.
- Be safe.
The cover doesn’t bounce back once it’s down. As you know, when there is no more cover, the birds tend to run rather than stick tight and fly. The staff at The Highlands wants nothing more than for you to see your birds. The rest of the equation is up to you. Please be considerate and pick up any empty shells you may come across in the field and stay off the cover. Let your dog do his job and stay on the paths.
We also encourage your party to have a safety discussion before each hunt. You’re never too old to learn and help others understand the respect that comes with hunting and carrying a loaded firearm. Talk about the safe zones of fire. Nobody should be shooting birds low or swinging over another hunter. Discuss the fact that all guns should always be carried with the safety “on” until they’re ready to shoot. No guns should be loaded until you’re ready to hunt. Walk in a straight line together, with nobody leaving the group without the knowledge of the entire hunt party. Let the bird get out at least 20 yards before you fire. Always know where your dogs are. Wear some orange. A blaze orange vest and hat are required gear at The Highlands.

Dog Training
With
Jeff Lemmeness
Spring and summer aren’t the only good times for training dogs. Consider winter! With the busy holiday season behind, do your dog a favor and get him out of the house for some prime-time pheasant opportunities. I provide the dogs quality hunting experiences, along with training tune-ups; your dog will get to hunt consecutive days, building his or her skills conditioning and hunting efficiency. Leave your dog at The Highlands for training, then book a hunt, and watch your success and enjoyment level rise. This program is for young and old dogs alike – each dog is run individually, and training is suited to each dog’s specific needs.

The Highlands Big Game Hunting
Most of you may already know that The Highlands owns a big game paradise in North Dakota. We’re now taking reservations for elk and bison hunts at The Highlands Sportsmen’s Ranch in Edinberg, ND for the fall of this year. The hunt season begins mid-September and runs through December 15. Several of our members have hunted and stayed at the ranch, and will tell you about the beauty of the land, the quality of the animals, and the thrill of a fair chase hunt in extremely challenging terrain.
Our very own Chris Kestel hosts hunts at the ranch and promises to help you create memories like no other. The property is an easy 11 hour ride from Milwaukee, or Chris can pick you up at the Grand Forks International Airport.
All members will soon be receiving a mailed copy of The Highlands Ranch DVD. Take the time to look it over and see how this property can provide a five-star big-game adventure complete with memories that will last a lifetime.

Amber’s Kennels
The new year has brought many exciting ideas to our employees. Kennel remodeling is under way, and our guests couldn’t be happier. Our long search for a high-quality dog bed is over, and I’m happy to report that your dogs will be sleeping on new top-of-the-line veterinarian-approved beds.
This spring, a splash of paint and additional lights will brighten up the interior and exterior of the kennels. We’re constantly trying to improve the property not only for you but for your pets. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Our busy holiday season went smoothly, thanks to members who remembered to call us in advance for pick-ups and drop-offs. We generally can pick up your pet at the Cedarburg Park and Ride at 7AM and drop off around 5:30PM on weekdays. We ask that you keep a current vet record on file with us so we can make sure your dog is up to date with his or her vaccinations; these include DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella (also known as kennel cough). Boarding and training prices remain the same: $17.00 per day for boarding and $160.00 per week for training. Don’t forget, potty training is available, and rates may vary depending on the age and willingness of the dog.
If you would like to reserve a spot for your dog(s), please call The Highlands at 920-528-8848 or my cell at 920-960-0177. Hope to see you soon!
